I would like to know if VC Andrews books are approbate reading for a 13 yr Girl?

dmy granddaughter loves to read...and for her birthday coming up I was going to get a set of VC Andrews books. But I have gotten mixed statements from friends whether this is appropriate reading or not. I know that she loves spooky books, mysteries and vampires. any help appreciated.
