I Need A New Car, Whats Good?

I really need a new car, and have been looking at some up to date used cars around 12 thousand dollars. I know nothing about cars and want to know whats good and reliable. My boyfriend recomends the ford focus, nissan altima, and honda accord. He says there dependable and i've found some nice focuses for about 12 thousand that are up to date with few miles. I recently saw a toyota solara which i really like and am willing to spend extra money on. Is the solara a good car? How many miles can i get out of it? What are some great cars to invest in? and how long will they last? Im going car shoping and hopefully buying on saturday the 72th. PLEAS HELP!
